Easter Celebrations at the College

Easter Celebrations at the College

Easter is one of my favourite times of the year. I love the warm days and cool nights, and I love the Sydney Royal Easter Show, which I have attended since before I could walk. Most importantly, though, Easter is a time to remember the death of Christ and to rejoice in his resurrection and the great hope it brings us of eternal life with him.

Over the past few months, the Christian Ministry Team has worked tirelessly to plan and deliver thoughtful and meaningful experiences that have helped our students grow in their understanding of Christ and his great love for his people. Thank you to the entire team for the pancakes, the questions, the class activities, and for culminating everything in an incredibly powerful Easter Chapel service on Monday.

As one parent shared:

“I just wanted to pass on how much I enjoyed the Easter Chapel today. I think it was the best one yet, and it engaged both the kids and adults so well. The music and choirs were fantastic too. It was truly enjoyed and appreciated.”

My sincere thanks also go to the Music staff for preparing the choirs and musicians, the talented actors, the artists for the sets and pictures, ‘Tommy’ and his puppeteer, Jake and the AV crews, the Property team, class and mentor teachers, and our support staff. Their collective efforts made this special time possible.

I pray that all our College community have a safe and refreshing holiday period.

Mrs Felicity Grima, Principal

Orchard Hills Development Update

Orchard Hills Development Update

Orchard Hills, where our College is located, has been identified by the NSW Government as a priority growth area in Western Sydney. The precinct is centred on the future Orchard Hills Metro Station, part of the Sydney Metro-Western Sydney Airport line, and is planned to evolve into a new urban community with homes, jobs and services close to public transport.

A revised Stage 1 rezoning plan is currently on public exhibition (March-May 2026). The proposal includes approximately 5,700 new homes, 2,100 jobs, a new town centre, parks and open spaces, and improved road, walking and cycling connections. The revised plan focuses development closer to the Metro station and reduces impacts on surrounding properties.

Following the exhibition period, community feedback will be reviewed, with a final planning decision expected later in 2026. Development would then occur progressively over time.

As Principal, I am a member of the Community Consultation Committee, chaired by Independent Commissioner Roberta Ryan. The College has previously made submissions in December 2022 and February 2024. In response to the revised Stage 1 rezoning plan, we will be meeting with the Independent Commissioner, the Department of Planning and Penrith City Council to continue advocating for the needs of our College community. Our advocacy has focused on traffic and transport impacts - particularly the need for significant upgrades to Wentworth Road - as well as compatible neighbouring land uses, appropriate infrastructure and services, and access to active open spaces.

For more information or to engage with the planning process, please visit The Planning NSW Website .

A copy of the latest Master Plan Newsletter can also be found on the College Website .

HSC Presiding Officer

HSC Presiding Officer

Our thanks to Mrs Elizabeth Maude for acting as our HSC Presiding Officer from 2022-2025. This is an important role that ensures the smooth running of students’ HSC Examinations here at the College.

For 2026 we are in need of a new Presiding Officer. This is a paid position.

If you are interested and able to help out, please contact Dr Sam Jackson here at the College: [email protected] for further details. Past HSC Supervisors are particularly encouraged to apply.

    • If a person was employed by the school for exam supervision work only (for example, HSC trial exams), they are eligible to be an HSC presiding officer or exam supervisor.
  • they tutor students sitting the HSC exams this year, at any school.

Presiding officers must:

  • follow-up tasks for after the HSC exams (up to one week), as required
  • have an email address, a mobile phone and be able to use NESA’s online portal, as some HSC information is only available online.
  • have the physical ability to handle heavy exam materials and stand for long periods.

Primary School

From the Head of Primary

From the Head of Primary

As we come to the end of Term One, we’ve loved finishing the term with so many wonderful moments that brought our community together. Events like Easter Chapel, the Easter Hat Parade, and Cross Country have been real highlights and a lovely reminder of the strong connections we share as a school.

Easter Chapel provided a meaningful opportunity for our community to pause and reflect on the hope at the heart of Easter; the good news that Jesus is alive. Through song, prayer and storytelling, students were reminded that this message brings comfort, renewal and great hope to our lives each day. A particular highlight for Primary was meeting Tommy and watching his Hope‑O‑Meter throughout the service, which helped bring this message to life in a way that was engaging and accessible for our students. Our celebrations continued with the Easter Hat Parade, which delighted students and staff alike with its colour, creativity, and joyful imagination. The hats were a wonderful reflection of the learning happening in classrooms and again reinforced the message that Jesus is alive. The Fun Run & Cross Country carnival then highlighted another important aspect of school life, as students demonstrated determination and perseverance while supporting and encouraging one another, creating a wonderful sense of school spirit and community. The Zooper Doopers generously provided by the P&F were a much‑appreciated treat and a lovely way to conclude each race.

If you heard something during our Easter Chapel or Easter Hat Parade and would like to explore the Easter message further or get to know Jesus more, families are always very welcome to join us at Primary Chapel each Friday in the Lighthouse Theatre. You are warmly invited to share in this time with us whenever you are able, regardless of whether your child is presenting for the week.

As we head into the holidays, we encourage families to keep reading as part of everyday life. Whether it’s a book, magazine, newspaper, closed captions on television, or instructions while cooking together, all types of reading help children build vocabulary and develop their understanding of language. These rich reading experiences support comprehension and writing and play an important role in your child’s learning.

As we look ahead to Term Two, please note the following important community dates:

  • K–2 Parent Information Session – Thursday 30 April
  • Mother’s Day Chapel & Open Classrooms – Friday 8 May
  • Primary Book Parade – Wednesday 20 May

We wish you all a restful and joyful Easter break and look forward to seeing everyone back next term.

Mrs Melinda Richardson, Head of Primary

Year 6 Learning Showcase

Year 6 Learning Showcase

Families were invited to our Year 6 Learning Showcase, held on Monday 20 March, where students proudly presented the learning they had been engaged in throughout the term. Working collaboratively, students completed major projects across Science and HSIE, developing key skills aligned with our College Learning Culture, particularly collaboration and perseverance. In Science, students designed and built creative projects with fully functioning electrical circuits, while in HSIE they researched significant Australian historical figures and presented their learning in a mode of their choice. A wide range of impressive work was displayed, providing families with a valuable opportunity to celebrate student learning and growth.

Authors’ Club Lunchtime Creativity

Authors’ Club Lunchtime Creativity

Our lunchtime Authors’ Club is off to a wonderful start and is open to students in Years 2 to 6 who enjoy writing and are bursting with imagination.

Authors’ Club provides a collaborative, creative space for budding writers to create their own stories, explore different writing styles and make new friends. Students share ideas, build characters and settings, and support one another as they develop confidence as young authors.

In Term 2, students will take the exciting next step as we focus on editing, refining and publishing our stories. This process helps students understand that writing is more than a first draft – it’s about revising, improving and taking pride in a finished piece. We look forward to seeing our young authors grow in creativity, confidence and collaboration as the club continues.

Pre-K Teddy Bears' Picnic

Pre-K Teddy Bears' Picnic

Today was the day the teddy bears came out to play as Pre‑K celebrated their annual Teddy Bears Picnic! Although the rain threatened to dampen our plans, it certainly didn’t dampen our spirits. The children had a wonderful time raising money for our Compassion Child, Selamawit.

In preparation for the picnic and parade, each child enjoyed making fairy bread and creating their very own teddy bear hat. With teddies in hand, the children proudly marched, danced, and sang together before sitting down to enjoy their delicious fairy bread with their special guests.

A heartfelt thank you to our generous families for their support. Together, Pre‑K proudly raised over $120 for Selamawit, making the day both joyful and meaningful for everyone involved.

Primary Crazy Hat Day

Primary Crazy Hat Day

Last week, our Year 5 students hosted a Brownie Stall and Crazy Hat Day for all Primary students, raising money for Compassion.

The brownie stall was a huge hit, with delicious treats quickly selling out as students eagerly lined up at recess. The Year 5 students took great pride in running their own stalls and serving the Primary community.

Crazy Hat Day added even more excitement, with students and staff wearing a fantastic range of colourful, quirky and imaginative hats. From towering creations to sparkly designs, the playground was filled with laughter and smiles as everyone joined in the fun for a good cause.

Thanks to the enthusiasm and teamwork of Year 5, along with the generous support of students and staff, the fundraiser was a wonderful success

LOTE News – Term 1

LOTE News – Term 1

On Thursday 19 March, Year 11 and 12 French students attended the 2026 Alliance Française Film Festival at Palace Moore Park. They viewed the exciting adventure film “Le Secret de Khéops,” (Treasure Hunters: On the Tracks of Khufu). Year 11 Continuers students noticed the advancement of their French language by being able to understand more French than in previous years. The students then enjoyed a traditional French crêpe lunch at the Four Frogs Creperie in Randwick.

A wonderful enriching cultural and language event which is fast becoming an annual event for our French students.

Year 8 French have been busy learning about French culture, French numbers 1-12, French greetings, talking about their age and learning the conjugations for the verbs "avoir" (to have) and "être" (to be). They have made French collages, completed numerous tasks on Education Perfect, Duolingo and the Language Gym to practise their skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in French as well as completing French quizzes and Wall Surveys. Students also enjoyed translating their favourite Easter Bible Verse into French and making them into posters.

The course was prepared by our outstanding property team, whose efforts were truly appreciated. Every student gave their best, showing determination and perseverance as they completed the course. The refreshing reward of a Zooper Dooper at the finish line makes the run so much worthwhile.

SHAPE Exhibition

SHAPE Exhibition

Ellison G (Year 12, 2025) has been recognised for outstanding achievement in Design and Technology, with his HSC Major Design Project, Firefighting Helmet Holder , selected to be showcased at the SHAPE Exhibition at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).

The SHAPE Exhibition is an annual showcase of outstanding HSC Major Design Projects from across New South Wales, and Ellison’s inclusion reflects the exceptional quality of his design thinking, practical skills, and problem-solving.

Ellison’s project responds to a real-world issue identified through his involvement with the NSW Rural Fire Service. He recognised that the most advanced firefighting helmets had no secure storage within fire trucks, creating both safety risks and potential damage to vital equipment. Through extensive research, prototyping, and testing, Ellison developed a universal, non-invasive helmet securing device with a quick-release mechanism. His design improves response efficiency while protecting essential equipment, demonstrating a strong understanding of user needs and a genuine commitment to supporting those who serve the community.

For Ellison, the experience has been both rewarding and inspiring. Here is some of Ellison’s reflection on the experience:
“It was an honour to be selected amongst 57 lucky finalists to showcase my HSC major work at SHAPE 2026. I’m incredibly grateful to have my work on display. It’s been a great experience connecting with other young designers who share a similar passion and learning from the different approaches behind each project. I’m grateful for the opportunity to both exhibit my work and support upcoming HSC students and the wider community by sharing ideas, creativity, and innovation.”

Our Year 11 and 12 Design and Technology students attended the SHAPE Exhibition, where they viewed Ellison’s project alongside other exemplary works and gained valuable insight into the Major Design Project and how to achieve success in the HSC.

During the excursion, Ellison spent time speaking with our students, sharing insights into his design process, challenges, and advice for success in the Major Design Project, providing valuable inspiration.

Congratulations to Ellison on this outstanding achievement, recognising his innovation, perseverance, and commitment throughout the design project.

The SHAPE Exhibition is open to the public at UTS Building 1 (Ultimo) until 11 April 2026. Entry is free, with viewing available Monday to Friday (8:30am – 3:00pm) and Saturday (9:00am – 1:00pm).
